学習目標(到達目標) This course aims to help students (a) research and understand the culture of Japan from an international perspective; (b) explain Japanese culture and express their opinions about Japanese life and culture in English. Students will also improve English ability and confidence across the four skills.
授業概要(教育目的) We will consider issues related to Japanese culture from a range of angles, and share our opinions about them. In the first semester, we will mostly study themes close to our lives now, such as family, friends and free time activities.

第3回"Common knowledge": A year in JapanWe will discuss the important events that happen during one year in Japan, and learn how to describe them.

第4回Identity: JapanWe will consider what it means to be Japanese. Has this changed over time? Is it different for different people?

第5回Identity: JapansThere are many different regions in Japan, with different traditions. In particular, Okinawa and Hokkaido have different climates, dialects and histories. We will learn about these identities.
