学習目標(到達目標) 読むことの能力をさらに伸ばすことを目的とする。幅広い話題について書かれた英字新聞の記事の正確な読解を通して伝達手段としての英語を習得すると同時に、日本人とは異なる発想を学び、より広い視野から人間や社会を見るきっかけを得ることができる。また、英字新聞の記事の背景となる知識や文脈から意味を推測して理解することができる。
授業概要(教育目的) 英字新聞の文字言語を媒体として報道されるニュースを主として扱う。メディア英語独特な語彙・表現・語句を学び、読解力を高め、時事問題への理解を深めることを目的とする。

第1回ガイダンス教科書、授業の進め方、毎回の小テスト、英質問や問題に答えエッセイを書くこと、成績評価方法、履修上の注意等について説明する。

第15回確認試験と解説授業を通して学んだことの確認試験を１時間、そして解説を３０分行う。
【事前学習】3 hours 英字新聞を読んで、key words, pointsを見つけること。
【事後学習】1 hour 時事英語に慣れ親しんでいこう。
授業形式 英字新聞の記事を読む前に文化・背景・語彙等を英語で説明し、記事を音読する。英語で読む力と書く力、聞く力、話す力を養っていき、何度か同じ記事を読んだ後、Exercisesに答え、読解力を見る。各課のテーマに即して文化・歴史・社会を学び、自分の意見も英語で表現し、Essayを書く。

事前学習の内容など，学生へのメッセージ 出席すること、授業のactivityに参加すること、Exercisesをやって提出すること。常に世界で起こっているメディア報道に関心を持ち、自分の意見を示し、英語で表現できるようにすること。さらに予習としてテーマになっている国々の歴史・文化・言語・社会・経済等を調べておくこと。
