授業概要(教育目的) 英語の背後にある文化と社会について学びます。読解力を向上させるとともに，授業中に取り上げた話題に関して，自分自身の考えを発展させることを目的とします。
This class focuses on topics regarding the current state and sociocultural background of the English language. Students are expected to improve reading skills and develop ideas about the topics covered in class.

授業形式 演習形式を中心として授業を進めます。内容理解を確認するための小テストや課題提出等を随時課します。課題に関してのフィードバックは原則として授業中に行います。
This class places emphasis on practical training. Comprehension quizzes and assignments will be given as needed. In principle, feedback on the assignments will be given in the class.

評価の特記事項 毎回出席を確認します。全出席を原則とし，無断欠席は認めません。５回以上の無断欠席は単位評価の対象外とします。遅刻は２回で欠席１回分とします。（欠席回数は各自で管理すること。）

オフィスアワー(授業相談) 本授業終了後の休憩時間に，７号館３階講師室にて対応しています。
事前学習の内容など，学生へのメッセージ 授業は，講読形式で行います。教材の内容理解には，TOEICスコア500以上程度の英語力が必要となります（受講前にそこに到達していない場合も受講は可だが，最終的に同等の英語力を求めます）。毎回，英語辞書を必ず持参してください。授業中のスマホ端末などの使用は一切不可となります。
国際理解は，単に英語を勉強することや欧米について知ることではなく，日本文化について深く理解することも不可欠です。テキストは，日本をよく知る外国人がインバウンドとアウトバウンドの両面から日本を考察している教材です。教材を購読することで，ソトからみた日本という視点から，グローバル化にどう向き合うべきなのかを考えます。
