As the population aging develops in Japan and the world, the population-related problems have received increased attention. Studies on the marriage, the health, the child and the elderly care, the labor, the geography, and the housing, for example, are all relevant to solving the population problems. Nihon University Population Research Institute, NUPRI, aims to provide theoretical analysis, application-oriented research, and policy recommendations on these issues.

The National University Student Symposium on Low Fertility 2025 was held at the College of Economics, Nihon University, on December 6, 2025, with the support of the Nihon University Population Research Institute (NUPRI).
A total of 133 university students, faculty members, and other participants attended the symposium. Students from participating universities presented their research on low fertility, followed by inter-university group discussions on the causes of declining fertility and possible policy responses.
Students from Nihon University presented a study entitled “University Students’ Attitudes toward Family Formation in Japan: A Comparison between Japan and South Korea.” Professor Rikiya Matsukura, Director of NUPRI, also served as Vice Chair of the Organizing Committee.
NUPRI will continue to support initiatives that encourage younger generations to think actively about population issues and exchange ideas across universities.
