Q. ゼミではどんなことを研究していますか?

Culture has a large impact on almost every aspect of human communication. In these seminar courses, students will engage in a series of activities designed to help them think critically about how culture can both positively and negatively affect communication, especially between people of different cultural backgrounds. We will consider the causes of cultural misunderstanding, as well as potential solutions. To further our own intercultural understanding, we will also research other countries’ cultures and present our findings in English to our classmates.

研究成果

My research has been focused on two areas of interest: technology-assisted language learning and how individual differences affect learning outcomes. In the field of technology-assisted language learning, I have examined how video games can be used as language learning tools and suggested ways they can be used both in and out of the language classroom. In the field of individual differences, I have primarily focused on how “grit” impacts English language proficiency in Japanese university students. More recently, I have started looking into how grit and self-directed language learning interact in determining language proficiency.
